	The Parade The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade is no ordinary gay pride-style parade. Each float, each marching group, has been at work for months, or years, to outdo themselves. The result is a festive evening parade that's feels more like a fun evening at the circus. These first two photos, from 1997 parade, show the Water Ballet team, in both heads-up and feet-up positions. Followed by . . .

There's nothing in the U.S.A quite like Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras. This site is provided as a companion to Venturing Out, the gay and lesbian travel column, in hopes that we'll see some spiffier floats at Gay Pride festivities stateside (OK, San Francisco, you're doing pretty well already) -- and to encourage people to attend, and participate in, the Sydney events.
