Most Americans heading to the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras content themselves with street clothes at the festive parade and post-parade party. And they have a great time. But it would be fun to see a few more costumes.

If this is your first Mardi Gras, you may not know what's approriate. The costume ideas you've probably been thinking about, like this one, present obvious hurdles when you have to pack that suitcase. Here are a few tips...
